Boston City Hall

Completed in 1968, Boston City Hall is a world-renowned example of Brutalist civic architecture located on City Hall Plaza. The nine-story concrete landmark serves as the center of municipal government, housing city administrative offices and council chambers. Visitors can admire its striking geometric concrete facade from the public plaza or step inside during weekday business hours.

History

Completed in 1968, Boston City Hall was designed by architects Kenzō Tange and the firm of Gerhard Kallmann, Edward M. McKinnell, and Donn M. P. K. H. Smith. It was built to replace the old City Hall and has since become a symbol of Boston's government.
