Museum of African American History

Located on historic Beacon Hill, the Museum of African American History preserves and interprets the vital contributions of African Americans in New England. The Boston campus encompasses the African Meeting House, the nation's oldest surviving Black church building, and the historic Abiel Smith School. Visitors can explore permanent and rotating exhibits that bring centuries of local and national history to life.

History

The museum was founded in 2006 and is housed in two historically significant buildings that were once the home of the African Meeting House, the oldest black church in the U.S., and the Abiel Smith School, the first public school for African American children in Boston.
