Hug Point

Hug Point is a scenic Oregon Coast stop just south of Cannon Beach, known for its broad sandy beach, tide pools, and dramatic headland views. At low tide, visitors can walk around the point and explore the shoreline, but the area can change quickly with the tides and surf. It is a good place for a short beach walk, photos, and a quieter coastal experience than some of the busier nearby beaches.

History

Hug Point is named for the old coastal road that once ran around the headland, where travelers reportedly had to "hug" the cliff to get past the point before modern highway access was built. Remnants of that early route can still be associated with the area, and the site is now part of the Oregon coast's public beach access landscape.

• Wear sturdy shoes if you plan to explore the rocks or wet sand.
• Do not attempt to round the point when the tide is rising or waves are large.
• Expect limited facilities; plan for a simple beach visit rather than a full-service stop.
