Named after Marshall Field, who donated $1 million to build the museum, The natural history museum has nearly 40 million artifacts and specimens, showcasing 4.5+ billion years of history. One cannot see so many artifacts in a day, let alone a few hours, so visitors should devise a plan beforehand on what to cover. There are additional exhibits that cost extra.
Arrive here early in the day and allocate at least a couple of hours to hit the major highlights.
- Pre-plan your visit; if visiting with young ones, you must check out Griffin Halls of Evolving Planet, Máximo the Titanosaur, 3D movies, and Nature Walk.
- Quetzalcoatlus, SUE the T. rex, and Photo murals in Abbot Hall of Conservation and Máximo are great places to take selfies or family pictures.
