Swami's Beach
FreeIconic Encinitas surf destination with cliffside views, tidepools, and sunset vistas
Swami's Beach is an iconic coastal spot in Encinitas famous among surfers for its point break and loved by visitors for its scenic bluffs. A long wooden staircase descends to the ocean, where visitors can enjoy surfing, walking along the sand, or exploring tide pools. The adjacent blufftop park provides grassy areas, picnic spots, and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.
History
Swami's Beach gets its name from Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, who established the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple atop the cliffs overlooking the beach in the 1930s. The area has since become a spiritual landmark and a haven for surf culture, gaining recognition in the Beach Boys' song 'Surfin' USA.'
