Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

Located west of Colorado Springs and accessible from Denver, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument preserves one of the world's richest fossil deposits. Visitors can explore giant petrified redwood stumps along scenic hiking trails and view detailed insect and plant fossils in the visitor center museum. History

Established in 1969, the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument protects one of the richest fossil deposits in the world, which was first discovered in the 1870s. The site showcases an incredible collection of fossils, including over 1,700 species of plants and animals, providing insight into life over 34 million years ago.
