The Getty Villa

History

The Getty Villa serves as the home of the J. Paul Getty Museum's antiquities collection. Opened in 1974, it was built by oil tycoon J. Paul Getty to house his growing collection of classical artworks. The design was inspired by the Villa dei Papiri, a first-century Roman country house in Herculaneum.
