Gulf State Park
A major state park with beaches, trails, and plenty of outdoor recreation options. Great for hiking, picnicking, camping, and enjoying coastal nature.
Gulf State Park is a large coastal park in Gulf Shores known for its mix of white-sand beach, freshwater lakes, pine forest, and extensive paved trails. It’s a strong choice if you want an outdoorsy Gulf Coast visit that goes beyond the beach, with opportunities for biking, walking, fishing, birdwatching, and easy access to the shoreline. The park also has a modern lodge and campground, making it a good base for both day trips and longer stays.
History
Gulf State Park was developed on land along Alabama’s Gulf Coast and became one of the state’s best-known public recreation areas. In 2004, Hurricane Ivan caused major damage to the park, and the area later underwent a significant rebuilding effort that included new facilities and trail improvements. Today, it is widely recognized as a model for combining coastal recreation with conservation and resilient design.
