Wells'Built Museum of African American History & Culture

Housed in a historic 1926 hotel built by Dr. William Monroe Wells, the Wells'Built Museum highlights the rich heritage and achievements of Orlando's Black community. Its exhibits showcase civil rights memorabilia, local African American artwork, and artifacts from famous entertainers who stayed at the hotel during segregation. The venue is currently temporarily closed to the public.

History

The Wells'Built Hotel was once a retreat for African American visitors during segregation, hosting famous musicians like Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. It was transformed into a museum honoring the rich African American history and culture in 2009.
