Fort McAllister Historic Park is a state park that was established in 1979. It is a beautiful 1,725-acre park that is home to the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The fort was built in 1861 and was a significant stronghold during the Civil War. It was also the site of the last Confederate ironclad to fall to Union forces.
