Crater Lake

Crater Lake does not exist in the city of Portland. The famous Crater Lake National Park is located in southern Oregon, approximately 230 miles south of Portland. Visitors searching for Crater Lake within Portland will not find a local lake, park, or venue by that name.

History

Crater Lake was formed around 7,700 years ago when Mount Mazama erupted and subsequently collapsed. The lake has been a sacred place for Native American tribes for centuries and was designated as a national park in 1902, making it the fifth national park in the United States.
