History
Founded in 1978 by Martha Longenecker, a professor of art at San Diego State University, the Mingei International Museum was born out of her passion for the art of the people (mingei). It has since become a sanctuary for the preservation and celebration of folk art and design, undergoing several transformations and expansions to continue its mission.
