Fremont Troll

Lurking beneath the northern end of Seattle's Aurora Bridge in the Fremont neighborhood, the Fremont Troll is an 18-foot mixed-media sculpture created by local artists in 1990. This eccentric public art piece features a shaggy giant clutching a real vintage Volkswagen Beetle in its massive concrete hand. Visitors are welcome to walk right up to the interactive installation, climb around, and snap memorable photos.

History

Created in 1990 as part of a community project, the Fremont Troll was designed to bring attention to the neighborhood and promote the arts. It was inspired by local folklore and has since become an iconic symbol of the Fremont area.
