Sunset Point

Sunset Point is one of Bryce Canyon’s classic overlooks, known for its wide view across the amphitheater’s orange and pink hoodoos. It’s especially popular with families because the viewpoint is easy to reach and gives a dramatic, immediate sense of Bryce Canyon’s scale without a long hike. At sunset, the light can deepen the colors of the rock formations and make the landscape feel especially vivid.

History

Sunset Point is part of the developed overlook system in Bryce Canyon National Park, created to help visitors experience the canyon’s main viewpoints from the rim. Like many of the park’s named overlooks, it reflects the park’s long history of making its distinctive hoodoo landscape accessible to travelers by road and short walks rather than only by backcountry routes.

• Expect exposed rim conditions with little shade and cooler temperatures than nearby lower elevations.
• Use caution near the edge, especially with children, because the overlook sits above steep drop-offs.
• Good footwear helps if you plan to continue onto nearby rim trails from the viewpoint.
