Swami's Beach

Located in Encinitas in San Diego County, Swami's Beach is renowned internationally as a premier surf spot and serene coastal retreat. Visitors descend a wooden staircase down the sandstone cliffs to access the sandy shoreline, which reveals tidepools during low tide. The blufftop park directly above offers shaded benches and panoramic views, making it an ideal spot to unwind or watch the sunset.

History

Swami's Beach gets its name from the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple located atop the cliffs overlooking the beach. The temple was founded in 1937 by Paramahansa Yogananda, a prominent Indian yogi and guru who introduced millions to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga through his book, 'Autobiography of a Yogi'. The beach's name is a homage to Yogananda's influence and the spiritual sanctuary nearby.
