History
Opened on April 12, 1915, the Cabrillo Bridge was named in honor of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who was the first European to explore the West Coast of the United States. The bridge's construction was part of the development for the Panama-California Exposition, which aimed to boost San Diego's profile and economy. Over the years, it has become an iconic symbol of the city and was designated a historic landmark.
